Creating a PICT Resource

    Colour and HyperCard

    Index

  1. Click the Paint icon at the top of the colour palette. A dialog box will open so you can type the name of your new resource.

When you click OK you will see a new window for you to paint in and the PICT editor palette

  2. When the PICT editor opens you can choose patterns for the colour as well as foreground and background colours. When you have made these selections you can choose from the various colour paint tools

  3. In this example the picture was made using the paint bucket and the eraser. Try out any or all of the tools and paint your picture

  4. The Effects menu in the menubar offers a number of ways of changing the picture

  5. When you have finished click on the close box of the paint window and save it as a PICT resource in your stack

Using a PICT Resource

  1. From the Items menu in the menubar select Place Picture... and you will see a dialog box like the one below

  2. If you click Place your PICT resource appears on the card and you can move it and resize it as you wish

  3. Another way of using PICT resources is with HyperTalk's Picture command. In this example the picture is shown in a floating window. There are a number of window styles to experiment with.

  4. Try these in your message box

    picture "paint", resource, roundrect

    picture "paint", resource, dialog

    picture "paint", resource, zoom

    picture "paint", resource, shadow

    picture "paint", resource, windoid

  5. Once a PICT resource is showing on the screen you can close it using the following syntax

    close window "paint"

  6. You can also hide the open window

    hide window "paint"

If you have hidden a window ( rather than CLOSED it ) you can use Show to show it again

    show window "paint"
